Trump Surprisingly Joins Rest of the World in Longstanding ‘Football’ Name Debate — Proposes NFL Should Rename Sport

On Friday, former President Donald Trump spoke out on the long-running debate over the naming of soccer and football, aligning himself with the international perspective.

The remarks came shortly after Trump was awarded FIFAs inaugural Peace Prize by federation President Gianni Infantino. He appeared onstage alongside Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, where the three leaders conducted the World Cup group draw for participating nations.

During the event, Trump shared his thoughts on the sport, reflecting on his own experience watching soccer before expressing his position on the naming controversy:

"In the United States, we rarely call it football because of the conflict with another sport called football. But really, shouldn't it be called football? This is football. We need a different name for the NFL game. It just doesnt make sense otherwise."

The audience at The Kennedy Center responded with enthusiastic applause following Trumps statement.
