On Thursday, the FBI detained a person suspected of placing explosive devices near the headquarters of the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee just hours before the Capitol was stormed on January 6, 2021, according to multiple news sources.
Authorities have not yet determined the suspect's motive, a law enforcement source told MS NOW.
The devices were positioned outside the DNC and RNC offices on January 5, 2021, the day before the attack on the Capitol. The FBI has stated that both explosives were functional and had the potential to cause serious injury or death.
The investigation has been ongoing for several years. Officials conducted over 1,000 interviews, analyzed thousands of video recordings, and examined hundreds of tips without identifying a suspect until now, NPR reported.
