Authorities have taken into custody a person suspected of placing pipe bombs in Washington, DC, prior to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to multiple news outlets.
The explosive devices were reportedly positioned near the headquarters of both the Democratic and Republican national committees on the night of January 5, 2021. The placement of the bombs coincided with the day when supporters of then-President Donald Trump breached Congress in an effort to prevent the certification of Joe Bidens 2020 presidential election win.
The bombs were found before they could detonate, and fortunately, no injuries occurred as a result.
