Mother faces charges after children consumed her THC gummies and required hospitalization: District Attorney

A mother in Tennessee has been formally charged after her two young children ingested THC hemp gummies, resulting in their hospitalization. Following the incident, both children, who are under 8 years old, were placed into the care of the Tennessee Department of Childrens Services after the mother tested positive for methamphetamine.

Candice Hickson faces charges of child neglect and endangerment. Her bail has been set at $25,000. District Attorney General Frederick Agee emphasized that the case will be handled according to the law while also considering the possibility of treatment for Hickson's substance issues so she might one day reunite with her children safely.

According to the arrest report, Hickson called 911 last week from her Milan, Tennessee home, concerned her children might have overdosed on her THC gummies. When authorities arrived, the children were unresponsive. Hickson explained that the children accessed the gummies while she briefly left the room and was unsure of the quantity consumed.

The children were taken to Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital in Memphis and were discharged within 48 hours.

In Tennessee, THC hemp gummies are legally available to adults 21 and older. Agee noted that while the state has not recorded any deaths solely from legal hemp THC gummies, this incident serves as a reminder for parents to keep all potentially harmful substances, including prescription medications like Oxycodone, Xanax, and Hydrocodone, out of childrens reach.

Hickson is scheduled to appear again in Gibson County General Sessions Court on December 16. No legal representation has been listed for her at this time.
