On Monday, December 1, a tragic accident occurred in Tadcaster, England, involving a Mercedes Sprinter minibus carrying nine high school students and a Hyundai i10. Sixteen-year-old Eleanor Ellie Hague lost her life at the scene of the crash.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. local time. The minibus, transporting students from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School, was struck by the Hyundai. Emergency responders attempted to save Ellie, but she was pronounced dead on site. Another teenage passenger sustained serious injuries, although they are not considered life-threatening. The remaining students and the minibus driver suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She has been released on conditional bail pending further investigation.

In response to the tragedy, Tadcaster Grammar School expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Ellie. The school emphasized its commitment to supporting all students and staff during this difficult time. Tadcaster Grammar School was closed on December 2 but is scheduled to reopen on December 3. Appropriate counseling and support services will be made available to everyone affected.

Kirsty Poskitt, a representative of North Yorkshire Council, extended her condolences to Ellies family and the young people involved, calling it "an incredibly sad day for our town."
