Burglar sentenced to prison for two break-ins within one hour

A notorious thief who targeted both a private home and a golf club within just one hour has been sentenced to prison. Craig Weaver, 46, was apprehended by staff after an alarm sounded at Stoney Holme Golf Club in Carlisle on the morning of 3 October.

Earlier that same hour, Weaver had been caught by the resident of a Warwick Road house. The woman, a teacher, discovered several stolen items including a Rolex watch, her passport, and bank cards.

With a criminal history totaling 145 offences, Weaver admitted to these burglaries and received a sentence of four years and eight months at Carlisle Crown Court.

The court was told that Weaver had recently been released from prison, was homeless, in debt, and struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. He claimed to have little recollection of the crimes, explaining that he had taken medication while feeling low on the anniversary of his daughter's death.

At the golf club, Weaver caused roughly 2,500 in damages, breaking windows. Nearby workers detained him, despite threats from Weaver that he would "stab" them and claimed to "know someone with a shotgun." This incident marked the second break-in at the business within ten days, though he was not charged for the previous case.

The homeowner affected by the burglary described feeling tearful and stressed, having had to increase security at additional expense, and even considered relocating.
