Critical necessity for a safer crossing close to the pub

A city councillor has highlighted an urgent requirement for a secure pedestrian crossing near a popular pub to "avoid a possible tragedy."

On Tuesday, a petition advocating for a crossing on Kerseley Road, close to the Old Shepherd pub, was submitted to Coventry City Council. Councillor Bea Christopher backed the petition, which gathered 146 signatures, urging the council to install a traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossing near the roundabout connecting Tamworth Road, Kerseley Green Road, and The Scotchill.

"The stretch of road has become dangerously unsafe," Christopher stated. "There have been multiple near-miss incidents, posing significant risks, especially for children and pedestrians."

She called on the responsible cabinet member to address the matter promptly and implement measures to enhance safety. Christopher added that schoolchildren often cross the road near the bus stop, and local residents reported that waiting times at busy periods could reach up to five minutes.

The story was reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, which focuses on councils and public service organizations.
