Authorities in New South Wales, Australia, have detained four men suspected of involvement in an international network distributing satanic-themed child sexual abuse material. Police are continuing efforts to identify the victims.
Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty, head of the sex crimes unit, stated that the suspects allegedly shared abhorrent content with a global network, depicting children from infants up to 12 years old, as well as animals.
Court proceedings will allege that this international group engaged in communications and shared materials portraying child abuse and torture linked to satanic and occult rituals, Doherty said on Monday. Law enforcement officers recovered thousands of videos from electronic devices during multiple raids across Sydney last week, she added. Some of the content also depicted the sexual abuse of animals.
Police footage released shows a 26-year-old man being arrested in Waterloo, a central Sydney suburb. Officers used a battering ram to enter his apartment and took him into custody, identifying him as a key figure within the network.
The investigation is part of Strike Force Constantine, initiated in April, focusing on the online distribution of child sexual abuse material with ritualistic or satanic themes. Police began looking into the group in November after learning of their international connections.
Doherty explained that the men were communicating with each other and sharing explicit child abuse material across the international network. Authorities have not yet identified the children or the origin countries of the content. We have not identified a specific child, but the images depict real children, she said.
Six search warrants were executed throughout Sydney, leading to the arrests of four men. The 26-year-old faces charges including making child abuse material available, possession of such material, and possession and distribution of bestiality content. The other three men, aged 46, 42, and 39, were detained in Malabar and are charged with offenses relating to child abuse material.
All four suspects were denied bail and are scheduled to appear in court in January. Police are reviewing thousands of files to identify other potential members of the network who may have shared illegal content via encrypted international platforms. Doherty described the abuse as particularly horrifying, given the ritualistic and symbolic discussions surrounding it.
