Zelensky's close associate removed from additional positions following bribery scandal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially dismissed Andriy Yermak, his former chief of staff, from the National Security Council as a widespread corruption investigation continues to unfold in Kyiv. In addition, Yermak has been removed from the Stavka, the top command of Ukraines armed forces, according to two presidential decrees released on Friday.

Yermak, a long-term associate of Zelensky, resigned from his role as chief of staff last week following searches by anti-corruption authorities at his offices and residences. It is not yet confirmed whether these investigations are connected to what some officials are calling the largest corruption scandal since the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, which reportedly involves illicit payments in energy procurement deals.

Previously, Yermak also acted as Kyivs lead negotiator in efforts to end the war. His responsibilities in this role have now been transferred to former defense minister Rustem Umerov. Having led the presidential office since February 2020, Yermak was widely regarded as the second most influential figure in Ukraine. Analysts suggest that his removal represents a significant setback for Zelensky, who has lost a key confidant and advisor.
