Kate Middleton Exchanges Traditional Royal Heirlooms for Unique, Sentimental Pieces from Her Personal Jewelry Collection

Kate Middleton frequently honors Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana through her choice of jewelry, and she continued this tradition on December 3. On the first day of the German state visit, the Princess of Wales selected a deeply symbolic five-strand pearl necklace from her own collection, designed by Susan Caplan.

The necklace, first worn by Kate earlier this year on Holocaust Memorial Day, holds significant meaning. That debut marked one of her first public appearances after announcing her remission from cancer. Since then, Kate has worn the piece on multiple notable occasions, including VE Day in May and Garter Day in June, and now for the German state visit.

During the visit, Kate greeted Germanys President and First Lady at Heathrow Airport in a royal blue Alexander McQueen coat over a black Burberry dress. She accessorized with Princess Dianas sapphire and diamond earrings and the Prince of Wales Feathers Brooch. The Susan Caplan necklace became visible later inside Windsor Castle, where the couples explored the Royal Collection's items connected to Germany.

The vintage necklace, originating from the 1980s, features graduated faux pearls secured with a Swarovski crystal clasp. When the piece first appeared on Holocaust Memorial Day, Caplan expressed her emotional reaction, noting the significance for the Jewish community and the honor of Kate choosing a Jewish-owned brand for such a meaningful day.

Caplan shared her surprise at discovering Kate had worn the $291 necklace while watching television, describing it as a moving and standout gesture. She praised the Princesss careful selection, highlighting Kates ability to pair the right jewelry with the right occasion, conveying sensitivity and emotional depth through her choices.
