Melania Trump asks Santa for strength and toys for hospitalized children during visit

Melania Trump visited a childrens hospital in Washington, D.C., offering warm holiday wishes and hoping Santa brings the young patients plenty of toys. The visit continued the long-standing tradition upheld by first ladies over the decades.

Upon arrival at Childrens National Hospital, she was welcomed by two young patients an 11-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl who accompanied her into a brightly decorated atrium. Settling into a large red chair beneath a towering Christmas tree, she read the book How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney? by Mac Barnett to a group of around two dozen children and guests.

After finishing the story, she wished the children strength and an abundance of gifts for the holiday season. She expressed hope that Santa would visit each of them, sending cheerful Christmas and New Year greetings filled with love and support.

She also conveyed warm wishes from President Donald Trump before speaking with children individually. Following the gathering, the first lady continued her visit in the hospitals hematology and oncology unit to meet patients privately.

During the event, Santa Claus handed her a gold coin engraved with the messages Believe and Merry Christmas. Melania Trump brought presents for the children, including Christmas ornaments marked with Be Best, her initiative aimed at promoting child well-being.

This holiday visit carried on a tradition that dates back to the time of first lady Bess Truman in the mid-20th century.
