Opinions wanted on proposal to enhance air quality

Local residents are invited to share their opinions on strategies to improve air quality over the next five years. Cornwall Council has released a draft Air Quality Action Plan outlining measures to lower emissions in Tideford, Gunnislake, and Launceston, areas officially designated as Air Quality Management Areas due to pollution levels exceeding national targets.

The council's draft plan identifies five key objectives: reducing emissions from transport, encouraging environmentally conscious behavior in schools and workplaces, enhancing air quality monitoring, incorporating air quality considerations into planning processes, and ensuring ongoing compliance with air quality standards.

The consultation survey will remain open until 31 January.

Previous monitoring in six locations showed measurable improvements in air quality, according to the council. Councillor Thalia Marrington, responsible for community safety and public protection, highlighted the significant impact of air quality on health and wellbeing. She noted that improvements in several areas are encouraging and emphasized the importance of continued progress.

Residents, especially those living in the three designated Air Quality Management Areas, are encouraged to review the draft plan and provide feedback on the proposed measures.
