Russia extends US citizen Gilman's jail sentence by 2 years, state media report

MOSCOW, Dec 3 A court in Voronezh, Russia, has imposed an additional two-year prison sentence on U.S. citizen Robert Gilman, according to RIA news agency.

Gilman, a former U.S. Marine, was initially imprisoned in 2022 after a drunken altercation with a prison officer. His detention has now been prolonged following new convictions for assaults on prison personnel and a state investigator during his time behind bars. The most recent charges also involve alleged attacks on prison staff.

After leaving the Marines, Gilman worked as an English teacher. He is currently among at least nine Americans still detained in Russia after previous prisoner swaps between the U.S. and Russia in 2024 and earlier this year.
