Outrage over footprints found on newly constructed path

Locals expressed frustration after someone disregarded warning signs and walked on a newly resurfaced pavement, leaving visible footprints across the fresh surface. The incident occurred earlier this week on the path next to Welton Road in Brough, where contractors employed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council had been carrying out repairs.

Resident Mark Sutton commented: "It's absurd that someone chose to walk on it instead of using the road. Likely the same people who later complain about pavement conditions."

The council confirmed that the contractor responsible will fix the affected area. By Friday, the tar had hardened, and all warning signs and tape had been removed. Neighbor Patrick Wiltshire said: "There were clear notices asking people to stay off. Maybe it was just someone being silly, but its still wrong."

On social media, Ben Wrigley posted on the Brough Rant and Moan Facebook page, remarking to the offender: "Hope you ruined some expensive shoes for the sake of saving a few seconds."

Councillor Terry Gill added: "It's astonishing. The signs were obvious, and we've encountered similar problems before."

A council spokesperson stated: "We are aware of the situation and have contacted the contractor responsible. The damaged area will be repaired promptly, without disrupting the ongoing works. Meanwhile, we urge everyone to respect warning signs and avoid walking on newly laid surfaces."
