Photographer captures disturbing moment tourists corner a grizzly bear near parking lots: 'They should be removed'

A wildlife photographer documented a troubling scene at Yellowstone National Park where a large group of visitors gathered too close to a grizzly bear. Many of the tourists had their phones out, attempting to film the animal, while effectively obstructing its path across the road.

Kyle Moon (@moonman04) posted the footage on Instagram after witnessing the event near the Firehole River. He noted that several people were within 25 yards of the bear, far closer than the recommended 100-yard safe distance. "I saw this grizzly pacing back and forth, trying to find a way to cross the road, but the crowd made it impossible," Kyle explained. The video was recorded using a spotting scope from a safe distance upriver.

Kyle added that such encounters are a daily concern during his work in the park. Observing a bear in its natural habitat can be mesmerizing, but it also carries significant risks for both humans and wildlife. Social media often features videos of visitors approaching bears dangerously close to capture photos or videos, prompting park rangers to intervene frequently.

Visitors must take personal responsibility for maintaining safety in these areas, especially around children. Staying at least 100 yards from bears is essential to protect both people and animals. Grizzly bears are capable of reaching speeds of up to 35 miles per hour, easily outpacing humans.

Kyle's Instagram followers reacted strongly to the incident, criticizing the tourists' reckless behavior. Comments included calls for stricter enforcement and reminders that even young bears can be dangerous. Kyle emphasized, "Don't follow crowds like this, and remember a sub-adult grizzly can cause serious harm."
