Stalker sentenced for violating restraining order

A 29-year-old man from Batley has been sentenced to prison after repeatedly harassing a woman and violating a restraining order. Declan Marsden, residing on Healey Lane, admitted to multiple offences, including breaching the restraining order that barred him from contacting the victim, and two counts of witness intimidation. Additionally, he was found guilty of two incidents of stalking without causing fear, alarm, or distress.

The hearing at Leeds Crown Court concluded on Tuesday, where Marsden received a sentence of 31 months in prison.

According to West Yorkshire Police, the incidents occurred between July and August 2025 and were reported to the authorities, leading to Marsden's arrest on 21 August. He subsequently appeared before magistrates in Leeds the following day.

Detective Constable Chris Walker emphasized the importance of restraining orders in safeguarding victims, stating, "Restraining orders are essential to protect individuals from harassment and abuse. Those who disregard them must understand that we will pursue legal action to the fullest extent." He also noted that Marsden had persistently targeted his victim over the summer, and authorities support the courts decision in sentencing him for the admitted offences.
