Restoring Royal Lodge After Andrew's Tenure: Dilapidations and Repairs Needed

After more than 20 years of paying a nominal rent, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is being asked to leave Royal Lodge. Recent findings from an internal inspection indicate that the 30-room property requires significant and costly renovations following his occupancy.

Normally, his lease would entitle him to compensation for an early termination, but due to the high repair costs, it appears unlikely that he will receive any payout. The estate has been maintained under a peppercorn rent arrangement, which allowed Andrew to live there for decades at minimal cost.

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament recently made public the inspection, detailing extensive dilapidations and repairs necessary to restore the estate. Despite this, Andrew has reportedly made leaving the property difficult.

Under the terms of his lease, the Crown Estate would have been required to pay him 558,000, along with an annual compensatory sum of 185,865 until 2028, for early termination. However, the projected cost of restoring Royal Lodge is so high that compensation is now expected to be waived.

Reports suggest that Andrew has demanded a substantial payout on top of any compensation to vacate the estate. According to sources, he has indicated he wants 75 million to even consider moving out.

Additionally, new information has emerged about his requirements for a residence on the Sandringham Estate. Sources indicate he is seeking a six- or seven-bedroom home, with friends emphasizing that he has complied with the requests made of him and now wishes to be left in peace.
