Authorities in South Africa have apprehended five men suspected of attempting to enlist in Russias armed forces. Officials are also probing a former legislator for potential involvement in recruiting these individuals.
It is believed that over a dozen South Africans have already been drawn in with promises of high-paying contracts, many of whom are now actively engaged on the battlefield against Ukrainian forces with little chance of returning home.
The investigation extends to Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, who stepped down from Parliament last Friday. She is accused of misleading 17 men into joining the Russian military effort.
South African authorities have previously faced scrutiny for allegedly supporting Moscows military operations, including through arms supplies.
