Teacher Gives Birth to Teen's Baby After Severe Sexual Abuse: His Response to the Situation

A former Manchester high school teacher, Rebecca Joynes, 31, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for sexual offenses involving two teenage boys, prosecutors reported. The case has drawn attention due to the severe breach of trust and the long-lasting impact on her victims.

Joynes, previously in a long-term relationship, began grooming two boys she met while teaching at the high school. Prosecutors revealed that she felt flattered by the attention from the teenagers following her breakup.

During her trial in May 2024, Joynes denied sexual contact with the first boy and claimed that any contact with the second boy occurred only after he turned 16 and after she had been dismissed from her teaching position. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed her conviction on four counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts by a person in a position of trust.

The case drew further attention during a professional conduct hearing on December 4, 2025. Shirley Duckworth of the Teaching Regulation Agency described Joynes actions as an abuse of trust and of the utmost severity. The hearing examined whether her conduct harmed the reputation of the teaching profession.

Joynes victim, referred to legally as Pupil B, shared that he will "forever be linked" to her through their child. Duckworth emphasized the lifelong impact, stating that the damage caused was enormous. Joynes did not attend the hearing or send representation.

Joynes was initially arrested in October 2021 on suspicion of sexual activity with a child and subsequently charged with six counts. Authorities reported that she groomed Boy A by taking him shopping and buying him a designer belt before engaging in sexual activity at her home. The mother of Boy A reported her suspicions to the school, leading to Joynes suspension and arrest.

Joynes later engaged in sexual activity with Boy B after he contacted her via Snapchat, resulting in a pregnancy. Their daughter was removed from Joynes care following an emergency court hearing 24 hours after birth. Joynes was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, along with restraining orders concerning both boys.
