A resident of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, has revealed that seeing charitable acts on TikTok motivated him to create an advent calendar collection for children undergoing treatment this Christmas. Thomas Cliffe initiated the campaign after deciding he wanted to "do something meaningful" for the community.

The initiative was organized through Cliffe's Community Cupboard Clayton project, which he established to support locals facing financial difficulties. All calendars collected through the drive were distributed to young patients at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in November.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Cliffe explained that he sought to maximize donations by reaching out to nearby supermarkets and encouraging the public to drop off calendars at the community cupboard. "TikTok has shown me countless examples of people dedicating their time to charity. That inspired me to create something special myself," he said.

Cliffe emphasized that some children in the hospital were uncertain whether they could spend Christmas at home with their families. "Receiving a calendar to open each morning in December would bring them a lot of joy," he added.

Community Cupboard Clayton, set up by Cliffe in May at the Nisa Local store in Newcastle-under-Lyme, collects essential supplies such as non-perishable food items. These are stored at the back of the store before being distributed to those in need across the area.

Reflecting on his motivations, Cliffe said, "I have always wanted to give back to the community. Bringing smiles to people makes me happy and gives me purpose."

Community members and local businesses contributed to the drive, demonstrating the impact of collective efforts inspired by social media.
