Tragic Accident: 6-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck by School Bus During Drop Off, Leaving Community Devastated

A tragic incident occurred in Oklahoma City on December 3, when a 6-year-old boy was fatally struck by a school bus shortly after being dropped off. The boy, a first grader at Fillmore Elementary School, was hit just one block from his school around 3:15 p.m.

Local authorities reported that three children had exited the bus, which was traveling east on Southwest 51st Street, before the young boy ran in front of the vehicle as it turned south onto South Douglas Avenue. Despite immediate medical attention, the child later passed away from his injuries.

Orlando Bonilla, a nearby resident, witnessed the aftermath and shared his experience with local news outlets. "When I arrived, the medics were working on the child. He appeared unresponsive and was not moving at all when they put him in the ambulance," Bonilla explained. "It was heartbreaking to witness such a young life lost."

Another local resident, Michael Morgan, expressed his grief, saying, "I cant even imagine the pain of losing a child in such a tragic way. My heart goes out to the family, and Im praying for them."

Officials from Oklahoma City Public Schools released a statement expressing their sorrow over the incident. "We are deeply saddened to report that a first-grade student from Fillmore Elementary was struck by one of our school buses shortly after dismissal," they stated. "Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the child tragically passed away." The statement further extended condolences to the students family, the first responders, and the Fillmore community.

In response to the tragedy, the school district announced that counselors and additional support staff would be available to assist students and staff who may be affected by the incident.

The Oklahoma City Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and fault will be determined as part of the ongoing inquiry.
