Two individuals sentenced for Taser assault outside bar

Two men have received prison sentences for attacking a man and a woman using scaffolding poles and a 30,000-volt Taser. Nikita Trembath, 32, from Permarin Road, Penryn, and Matthew Cunningham, 41, from Hilgrove Road, Newquay, were sentenced at Truro Crown Court.

The attack occurred outside the Seven Stars pub in Penryn around 15:45 BST on Tuesday, 15 July. The female victim suffered a head injury, while the male victim sustained a fractured nose.

Cunningham was sentenced to five years and four months in prison, and Trembath received a sentence of two years and eight months.

Trembath had admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in public, and possession of a weapon capable of discharging a 30,000-volt electric stun gun. Cunningham previously admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm, causing grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.

The court was told there had been prior tensions between the groups, and the victims were too fearful to provide victim impact statements.

Detective Constable Richard Haycock described the incident as a violent and sustained attack with weapons, taking place in the middle of a Cornish street during the school run, adding that it would have been frightening for anyone in the vicinity.
