Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the United States President Donald Trumps representative at the Kremlin. The White House claims that discussions are advancing, yet the meetings have caused concern among Washingtons European partners.
European authorities worry that even a modified peace proposal supported by the US "resembles a wishlist favoring Moscow," according to Le Monde. Meanwhile, an AFP report highlighted that Russian forces achieved their largest territorial gains in the past year during the previous month.
Experts suggest that the current negotiations are unlikely to produce significant breakthroughs. The Kremlin has shown minimal willingness to compromise on its territorial goals. For Kyivs European allies, the US-backed plan seems comparable to a Versailles-style treaty, except it penalizes the victim while benefiting the aggressor, one analyst told The Wall Street Journal.
