In a striking protest, left-wing activists deposited horse manure under the Ritz hotels Christmas tree in London. Footage shows three individuals placing the waste at the base of the tree before security escorted them out of the premises.
The demonstration took place just after noon on Wednesday and was organized by Take Back Power, a newly formed non-violent civil resistance group advocating for higher taxes on extreme wealth.
After being removed from the Piccadilly five-star hotel, the protesters continued their demonstration outside, holding signs with messages such as "inequality is s---" and "tax the rich".
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating the incident as potential criminal damage, although no arrests have been made so far.
Video footage shows the trio moving through the hotel lobby with suitcases. They then crouched by the Christmas tree, extracted bags of manure, and emptied them onto the carpet. Hotel staff attempted to intervene before a security guard carried one protester away.
Take Back Power stated that the protest calls for the creation of a permanent citizens assembly, or House of the People, empowered to levy taxes on extreme wealth to ensure a fairer distribution of resources.
In a statement on the groups website, two activists involved were identified as Ellen Redwood-Brown, 23, an NHS worker, and Tom Barber, 65, a former doctor and journalist from Nottingham. Both emphasized the need for greater taxation on the wealthy to promote social equity.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: At around 12:14 on Wednesday, officers responded to reports of criminal damage at a hotel in Piccadilly, Mayfair. Upon arrival, they found horse manure in the lobby, believed to be part of a protest. No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues.
