Formal proposals submitted for revitalization of town center

Plans to revitalize Ollerton's town centre have moved forward with the submission of an official planning application. The proposed redevelopment aims to introduce a three-screen cinema, a caf, a public sector hub, and residential units.

The Newark and Sherwood District Council confirmed that this application follows three rounds of public consultation, allowing local residents to share their input on the plans. Claire Penny, who oversees sustainable economic development, described the submission as a significant milestone for Ollerton.

"This is just the beginning of a fresh chapter for the town, one that truly reflects the desires of our community and the valuable feedback we've received from consultations," she said. "Were thrilled to see this vision starting to take shape."

Karen Wakefield, the clerk of Ollerton and Boughton Town Council, emphasized the importance of the project, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape the heart of our town, creating a lively, accessible town centre that preserves our local heritage."

The initial plans to rejuvenate Ollertons centre with 20m in levelling up funds were unveiled in December 2023. The council hopes the planning committee will review the application early in 2026, with construction set to begin later that year, and completion scheduled for 2028.
