EXCLUSIVE: Former 'SNL' Star Ego Nwodim Shares Her Christmas Hosting Plans from Her Brooklyn Apartment

Ego Nwodim, former "Saturday Night Live" cast member, is gearing up to host Christmas for the first time at her Brooklyn apartment. The 37-year-old comedian, who spent seven seasons on the iconic NBC sketch show, has lived in her apartment for six years but has never organized the holiday until now.

Ill be hosting Christmas this year in New York myself, and thats really exciting, Nwodim shared. Itll be my first time hosting on Christmas Day, so Im super excited, and thats top of mind for me right now.

With the holiday approaching, planning the menu is Nwodims main focus. Im thinking about what I can cook for everyone, taking dietary restrictions into account, and polling my friends to see what they like, she said.

Known for her viral comedic sketches and impressions on SNL, Nwodim prefers a minimalist lifestyle at home, creating a sunlit, plant-filled apartment free from work reminders. Im grateful for my time on SNL, but Im not really into mementos, she admitted. My focus is on keeping my space cozy. Cozy is number one.

Sunlight and warmth are essential to her home environment. Sun is huge for me, she explained. I think of myself like a plantI need sunlight, and I have lots of plants to match. During winter, she relies on simple holiday decorations to brighten her apartment. I take a minimalist approachclassic tree, stockings, seasonal scents, and lights in the right places, she said.

Nwodim only starts decorating for Christmas after December 1, allowing Thanksgiving its own moment. I love Thanksgivingits a special holiday for gratitude and food, so we let it breathe before Christmas, she said.

Her favorite holiday activity is wrapping presents on the floor of her living room, enjoying the comfort of a plush rug. I sometimes prefer the rug to the couch, but everything in my place is cozy. Thats the main goal, she said.

Nwodim also loves receiving gifts that add light and warmth to her home, especially candles. I have a cabinet full of candles I plan to use, and Boy Smells De Nimes is my favorite, she said.

She treasures gifts from co-stars on the Netflix film Little Brother, including an ornament from Sherry Cola and a butter candle from Eric Andre. Theyre cute reminders of them in my kitchen, she said.

When working away from home, Nwodim recreates the cozy atmosphere by keeping water, snacks, and comfy shoes accessible. Having a couch or a flat shoe to slip into makes it feel like home, she said. She also maintains the perfect temperature for comfort.

However, Nwodim refuses to have armless sofas or uncomfortable dining chairs in her spaces. Where would you prop your head for a nap on a sofa with no arms? she asked. Function should always come before form.
