As Addison Rae neared completion of her debut album in 2024, one final piece brought her project into full focus: the introspective track Times Like These. Serving as the emotional capstone of the 12-song collection, the song captures themes of identity, growth, and the uneasy excitement of change. Its lyrics balance uncertainty with bravery, hinting that real evolution begins only when one steps into the unknown.
Raes breakthrough moment wasnt achieved in isolation. Her partnership with Los Angeles native Luka Kloser and Stockholm-born Elvira Anderfjrd a writer-producer duo under Max Martins MXM Publishing provided the exact creative grounding she needed. With Anderfjrd contributing expertise shaped through work with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Tove Lo, and Kloser bringing experience alongside Ariana Grande and Tate McRae, the trio forged a shared vision that pushed Rae toward a more daring sound.
Working as an all-female team proved instrumental in giving Rae full agency over her artistry. I would have never gone as deep as I did on Times Like These without the trust I have with Luka and Elvira, Rae reflects. The songs completion marked a moment of final clarity: she felt she had said everything she needed to on the album.
The collaboration also carried a symbolic weight. For an industry long dominated by male-led studio environments, this dynamic offered something radically different. Kloser notes how eye-opening it felt to witness a space where women shaped every role, describing it as creatively liberating. Anderfjrd adds that such freedom can be delicate, easily disrupted by a single presence or reaction, even when well-intentioned.
For Rae, navigating expectations only energized her further. She embraces the spectrum of reactions to her musical pivot, seeing it as fuel rather than friction. That determination has already paid off: fresh from a multi-continent tour supporting the album, she is set to return to Sweden to continue writing with Kloser and Anderfjrd. And next, shell stand among nominees for best new artist at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
Rae describes the recognition as deeply affirming, especially for anyone who has fought to be taken seriously. Anderfjrd emphasizes that their success ultimately came from a simple shared purpose: creating music they genuinely loved.
