James Bond Actor Passes Away at 75 After Stroke: ‘His Loss Is Immeasurable’

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, recognized for portraying a Hong Kong police officer alongside Timothy Dalton in the 1989 James Bond film License to Kill, has died at his Santa Barbara, California home, his manager confirmed on Thursday, December 4. The Tokyo-born actor was 75 and had recently suffered a stroke.

Cary possessed a rare and generous spirit, always thoughtful and deeply devoted to his art, the statement read. His absence leaves a void that cannot be measured. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who cherished him.

Tagawas career extended well beyond his Bond appearance. He appeared in notable films such as The Last Emperor (1987), Mortal Kombat (1995), Pearl Harbor (2001), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), and 47 Ronin (2013). On television, he featured in Amazons The Man in the High Castle (2015) and Netflixs Lost in Space (20182021).

His final performance was as a voice actor in Netflixs adult animated series Blue Eye Samurai in 2023. Tagawa is survived by his three children, who were with him at the time of his passing.
