Jimmy Buffett's Daughter Helped Smuggle His Ashes Into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Jimmy Buffett had a presence at his posthumous induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in more than just spirit. In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show aired Tuesday, Kenny Chesney, who helped induct the late musician alongside James Taylor and guitarist Mac McAnally in 2024, shared that some of Buffetts ashes were discreetly brought into the ceremony with assistance from his daughter, Savannah Buffett.

Chesney recounted, We were backstage rehearsing and going over our parts when Mac came up to me and said, Look at this. It turned out to be a small urn with Jimmys ashes tucked inside Macs coat pocket. So during the induction, Jimmy was literally there on stage with us.

Savannah Buffett played a key role in the plan, personally passing her fathers ashes to McAnally before the event. Chesney added, Even after his passing, Jimmy managed to be part of the celebration.

Buffett, known for chart-topping classics like Margaritaville, Its Five OClock Somewhere, and Cheeseburger In Paradise, passed away at 76 in September 2023. The following October, he was honored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, joining other inductees including Cher, Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne, Kool & the Gang, A Tribe Called Quest, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Dionne Warwick, MC5, and Norman Whitfield.
