Miley Cyrus reveals how fiancé Maxx Morando assists with her unusual fear: 'It's impacting my daily routine'

Miley Cyrus has opened up about her intense fear of paper. The singer, known for hits like Wrecking Ball, discussed the phobia on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, humorously noting that one reason she got engaged to Maxx Morando is that he manages all the cardboard recycling at home.

Im a bit of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas. Paper just makes me feel nauseous, Cyrus admitted, reacting as she gestured toward Kimmels cards. She explained that her main struggle arises when people with dry hands touch paper, especially during the cold, dry winter months.

The phobia has escalated to the point where she cannot open letters from friends or read newspapers. Its a phobia, and I need help, she said. Some types of paper, however, are acceptable to her, such as rolling papers. Those are fine. My hands arent dry, and the paper isnt either, she joked.

Cyrus revealed that her fear is worsening over time. I need some form of intervention, possibly EMDR or hypnosis, because its impacting my daily life. Even receiving an Amazon box makes me feel sickthe cardboard is the worst because its extra dry and layered with packaging, she said. She added humorously that this inconvenience is partly why she relies on her fianc to open packages outside.

Kimmel asked how the phobia might affect their marriage, referencing the tradition of paper as a first anniversary gift. Cyrus dismissed the concern, noting, Not here. When asked if she would be able to sign a marriage certificate, she replied that waxed or smooth-surfaced paper is manageable, recalling her previous marriage to Liam Hemsworth.

The singer traced the origin of her phobia back to childhood car trips from Nashville to Toronto with her siblings. Every weekend, we would drive 14 hours with five kids and a German shepherd. My mom drove, and chaos reigned as we fought the entire trip. To torment me, my brothers would rub paper together while I sat in the backseat, she recounted.

Despite her aversion to paper, Cyrus has adapted to reading in other ways. I was thrilled when the Kindle came along. As long as the paper isnt dry, Im fine. For my book, wax paper workstake a page out and roll it, and I wont mind!
