Miley Cyrus laughs off engagement as a remedy for a strange 'phobia' impacting her daily life

Miley Cyrus playfully explained the reason behind her engagement to her long-time partner, Maxx Morando. The 33-year-old singer shared the story of her recent proposal during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, revealing it happened just before the holiday season.

When host Jimmy Kimmel remarked that buying a Christmas gift for Cyrus seemed nearly impossible, she admitted to having a strong dislike for paper. I hate paper, she said, adding that even seeing it can make her feel nauseous.

She elaborated that her aversion stems from people with dry hands touching paper, particularly during winter. And then its Christmas, and its cold. Everyones hands are dry, and theyre all touching paper, she explained.

Cyrus joked that her hatred is so intense that she avoids opening letters. Its a phobia, and I think I need help, she said, noting that her condition seems to be worsening and might require professional intervention.

She further described her struggle with cardboard packages, saying that receiving an Amazon box makes her feel unwell. I am considering EMDR or hypnotherapy because its affecting my everyday life, she admitted.

The singer humorously revealed that her engagement to Morando allows him to handle all the packages. I just make my fianc open everything outside, she quipped. When Kimmel mentioned the traditional paper gift for a first anniversary, she firmly rejected the idea.

Cyrus clarified that her issue is only with rough paper and cardboard, not smooth surfaces like wax paper. She referenced her past with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth but insisted certain types of paper were manageable for her.

Fans first noticed the engagement when the couple attended the Avatar: Fire and Ash premiere, where Cyrus sported a diamond ring on a thick gold band. She confirmed the news on Good Morning America, describing the proposal in Japan as a meaningful surprise.

Im not easy to surprise because I like to control situations, but I completely surrendered, she said. She added that visiting Japan for the proposal was intentional, saving a special place just for herself.

The news was met with congratulations from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who shared a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating their engagement and expressing joy for the couples happiness.
