"Mistakes in Editing Allow Fans to Accidentally Witness the Making of Roger Sterling's Iconic Vomit Scene in "Mad Men" on HBO Max"

Fans of Mad Men got an unexpected behind-the-scenes glimpse when the series launched on HBO Max on December 1 in 4K. Among the highlights was a notorious scene featuring Roger Sterling.

Upon the show's release, viewers quickly spotted several mistakes. The most noticeable occurred in the first season episode "Red in the Face", where Roger Sterling (John Slattery) vomits oysters on the Sterling Cooper office floor. In this version, two production crew members controlling the fake vomit were visible behind Don Draper (Jon Hamm), an element absent from the original 2007 broadcast.

Additionally, the episode was incorrectly titled "Babylon", originally the name of season 1s sixth episode. Other episodes from season 1 also showed wrong titles, including 5G, which appeared as Red in the Face.

Visual errors extended to season 2 as well. In "Three Sundays", a scene with Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) walking past storefronts included anachronistic ads for SIM cards and a Los Angeles Mexican restaurant, which had been replaced with period-accurate signage in the original airing.

HBO Max confirmed that the incorrect files were provided by Lionsgate, the studio behind Mad Men. Corrected episodes are expected to replace the flawed versions shortly.

The series arrival on HBO Max marks its first availability in 4K, offering fans enhanced visual clarity and the chance to experience the meticulously crafted details of the show. The main cast includes Christina Hendricks as Joan Harris, John Slattery as Roger Sterling, Jared Harris as Lane Pryce, Vincent Kartheiser as Pete Campbell, Jon Hamm as Don Draper, Robert Morse as Bertram Cooper, and Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson.

Royce Battleman, EVP of Global Content Acquisitions at Warner Bros. Discovery, said, Mad Men is a great addition to the HBO Max library of iconic content. Fans can now enjoy the series in a refreshed way with enhanced 4K visuals.

Created by Matthew Weiner, Mad Men won the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy for each of its first four seasons. The show helped make Jon Hamm a household name and featured a stellar ensemble cast including Slattery, Moss, Hendricks, Kartheiser, January Jones, Jessica Par, Kiernan Shipka, and more across seven seasons and 92 episodes. While the series is also available on AMC+, it is not offered in 4K there.
