'Saturday Night Live U.K.' Casting in Progress, Says Sky Exec: 'Chance to Develop Future Comic Talent'

Phil Edgar-Jones, Skys executive director of unscripted originals, revealed on Wednesday that casting for the British adaptation of Saturday Night Live is actively in progress. Speaking at Content London, Edgar-Jones hinted at the new sketch series, stating, I am actually not allowed to say anything. Its going to be good!

Despite the initial secrecy, he offered further insight, explaining, Were thrilled about this project as it allows us to cultivate the next generation of comedic talent. Casting is currently underway, and we are also reviewing writers. Edgar-Jones emphasized the positive reception from the comedy community, adding, The enthusiasm has been incredible, and Im really excited about whats ahead. Its going to be a lot of fun.

The show, titled SNL U.K., represents the first British version of the iconic American series and is scheduled to premiere on Sky and the streaming platform NOW next year. Legendary series creator Lorne Michaels is executive producing the London-based spin-off.

Sky recently announced the primary creative team behind the series. James Longman, former host of The Late Late Show With James Corden and a two-time Emmy winner, will serve as lead producer. Liz Clare, known for directing live events such as the BRIT Awards and An Audience With Adele, will direct the show. Head writer Daran Jonno Johnson, a member of the comedy troupe Sheeps and co-writer of Disney+s 2022 film Wedding Season, will guide the writing team.

According to the press release, SNL U.K. will maintain the same fast-paced, live format as the original, featuring a fresh ensemble of comedic performers in the core cast, complemented by guest hosts and musical acts.
