Sydney Sweeney Exposes the Pressure That Tore Apart Her Family

Sydney Sweeney, the 28-year-old actress known for her prominent roles in Hollywood, has shared the personal toll her acting ambitions took on her family. Despite her professional success, Sweeney revealed that her parents faced significant financial and emotional challenges to support her dream.

Childhood Sacrifices and Family Hardships

During the December 1 episode of the Awards Chatter podcast, Sweeney discussed her upcoming film Christy, but also reflected on her familys sacrifices. She explained that her family moved from Spokane, Washington, to Los Angeles to help her pursue an acting career, a relocation that created unexpected financial strain.

Growing up in a small town, when you come to L.A., like most of you probably know, prices in L.A. are crazy. Not anything like where I came from, Sweeney shared. The actress revealed that her father, Steven Sweeney, eventually lost his job, further intensifying the familys financial difficulties.

Bankruptcy and Divorce

By the time she was 16, Sweeneys parents had filed for bankruptcy and later divorced. The actress admitted she felt a strong sense of guilt, believing her pursuit of acting contributed to their struggles. My family filed for bankruptcy when I was 16. They filed for divorce, and I felt like a lot of it was my fault because I had brought them to the city [and] uplifted their entire lives, and I blamed myself for a long time, she said.

Turning Guilt Into Motivation

The experience inspired Sweeney to push herself harder in her career, aiming to succeed not only for herself but also to support her family. I put a lot of pressure on myself of needing to succeed and achieve all these things so I could put different things back together, she explained.

According to People.com, Sweeney has made efforts to support both of her parents since the divorce, although reuniting them under one roof remains impossible.
