WASHINGTON During his ninth Cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump sharply criticized Democrats for raising concerns about inflation, despite recent declines in prices for essentials such as gasoline and groceries. The term affordability is a trick pushed by Democrats, Trump stated. Its a complete scam by them.
Opening the session on Dec. 2, Trump expressed frustration over what he described as insufficient media coverage of his achievements. He also targeted Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, criticizing the pace of interest rate reductions aimed at boosting the economy. We have a very stubborn person leading the Fed, Trump remarked. Next year, we will announce someone new to head the Federal Reserve.
Trump revealed he had offered the role to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who declined. Were performing well, sir, and its a privilege to be part of this team, Bessent responded.
The president also highlighted the financial gains from his global tariffs, claiming they have brought in billions of dollars. Amid laughter, he refrained from naming countries such as South Korea and Japan, which he said had previously taken advantage of the U.S. We are earning significant revenue through tariffs, he stated. These nations were exploiting us for years.
As the midterm elections approach, Trump defended his policies and stressed his accomplishments on issues like drug prices and international trade, positioning them as key achievements in his second term. Democrats had seen strong results in recent elections, reflecting voter unease with the economy, while Trumps approval ratings have shown some decline.
The president also addressed a recent tragedy, mourning the death of National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, shot on Nov. 24. Trump spoke with her grieving parents and called her a perfect human being, noting their devastation. Another Guard member, Andrew Wolfe, is reportedly recovering from injuries sustained in the same incident. Trump suggested that the attacker might have been frustrated by declining crime rates in Washington, D.C.
