Donald Trump's Latest Creation Rejected as 'New Level of Insanity'

The name of former President Donald Trump has been prominently displayed on the building of the U.S. Institute of Peace, generating ridicule and criticism online for resembling authoritarian tendencies. The State Department confirmed the renaming on Wednesday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the department stated: This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to honor the nations greatest dealmaker. Welcome to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. The best is yet to come, accompanied by an image of the building.

Earlier this year, the Trump administration had significantly downsized the independent agency as part of a campaign led by Elon Musks unofficial Department of Government Efficiency, aimed at cutting what was viewed as unnecessary public spending. Following the renaming, critics highlighted the irony of affixing Trumps name to an institution he had effectively dismantled.

Social media responses were overwhelmingly mocking, referencing Trumps unsuccessful bid for the Nobel Peace Prize and the perceived absurdity of the renaming:

  • Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace; an oxymoron if there ever was one.
  • Hope the letters come off easily when they are removed in a few years. What utter absurdity.
  • Soon, the institute will host the Very Fine People Conflict Resolution Seminar, teaching mediators to find good people on both sides even if the sides include extremists.
  • Naming it the Institute of Peace while anticipating conflict with Venezuela is a new level of insanity.

Legally, the institution retains its original designation as the Institute of Peace, and the added Trump signage does not alter its official status.
