The Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed the apprehension of a man in connection with pipe bombs discovered in Washington D.C. the night before the January 6, 2021, Capitol unrest. The arrest was revealed on Thursday following an investigation that spanned nearly five years, intensifying speculation around the events that unfolded at the Capitol.
Officials reported that the arrest occurred Thursday morning, but further information about potential charges or the suspect's identity has not been released.
Authorities stated that the explosive devices were found near the Democratic and Republican National Committee offices in the city on the evening of January 5, mere hours before the breach of the Capitol by rioters. Although no injuries occurred as the bombs were safely neutralized, the FBI had previously indicated that the devices had the potential to cause deadly harm.
