Political journalist Olivia Nuzzi, known for her involvement in high-profile scandals, may soon lose her position at Vanity Fair following allegations that she interfered with other reporters' investigations into her alleged former partner, RFK Jr.
Nuzzi, who left New York Magazine last year amid claims of an undisclosed relationship with the much older Kennedy, was set to make a professional comeback this September. She was appointed West Coast editor at Vanity Fair and was featured in a New York Times profile discussing her upcoming memoir.
However, a recent Substack post by Nuzzi's ex-fianc and fellow journalist Ryan Lizza accused her of secretly assisting Kennedy's campaign and suppressing stories that could have been damaging to him, all while continuing to report on the election. These revelations have reportedly put her new role at risk, with insiders suggesting that her temporary contract may not be renewed.
It appears they are planning to let her go, one anonymous source told Page Six. Another insider claimed that Nuzzi had not attended any meetings or even picked up her company laptop.
Two executives at Cond Nast, the publisher of Vanity Fair, told Semafor Media that Lizza's allegations had caused concern and that they were unlikely to extend her contract, though no final decision has been made. Requests for comment from Vanity Fair and Nuzzis attorney, Ari Wilkenfeld, have been made by The Independent.
Last weeks post is part of a series of accusations from Lizza, who was dismissed from The New Yorker in 2017 over alleged sexual misconduct and has been accused by Nuzzi of hacking her devices. The pair have engaged in repeated legal disputes since their breakup, with Nuzzi initially seeking a restraining order and alleging blackmail before withdrawing her request.
Nuzzi has been promoting her memoir American Canto, which reportedly details claims that Kennedy wanted her to have his child and frequently used psychedelic substances. Vanity Fair previously stated it was reviewing all the facts following Lizza's earlier report, which also suggested Nuzzi had a relationship with Republican politician Mark Sanford while reporting on his campaigns.
