Scott Jennings of CNN humorously offered to extend an apology to Catherine Zeta-Jones following reports that she and her husband, Michael Douglas, were reportedly enraged after their son faced a tough exchange on air. Dylan Douglas, 25, appeared on CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip last month, where he struggled to respond during a heated discussion with Jennings, known for his conservative commentary.
According to gossip writer Rob Shuter, the confrontation left the Hollywood stars extremely upset. They are absolutely furious with CNN, at a level of total outrage, Shuter noted on his Substack blog.
Addressing the incident on Meghan McCain's Citizen McCain podcast, Jennings openly boasted about challenging the couples son, describing him as a nepo-baby. He also expressed surprise at the intense reaction from Zeta-Jones and Douglas. Honestly, I didnt expect it, Jennings said, as reported by Mediaite, adding jokingly, I would gladly apologize to Catherine Zeta-Jones over a seafood dinner if shes interested.
McCain shared her perspective as well, calling herself the queen of nepo babies in reference to her father, the late Senator John McCain. She argued that Dylan should not have appeared on a show with Jennings, likening it to bringing a knife to a gun fight. Reflecting on her own early TV experiences, she remarked, I went on shows too early as a nepo baby. I faced criticism from Paul Begala on Bill Maher, but my parents didnt overreactthey told me to keep going.
Despite the intense on-air exchange, Jennings emphasized that Dylan was polite off-camera and grateful to participate. We had a standard discussion. He presented his Democratic viewpoints, and I countered them. This happens often on CNN, Jennings explained.
He further reflected on the broader context, suggesting, Some individuals grow up in very insulated circles, rarely encountering opposing views. Theyre accustomed to constant praise for their looks and intelligence. He concluded, Then they appear on television with someone holding different beliefs, and the experience can be shocking to them.
