Trump criticizes Ilhan Omar, stating his opposition to Somalis immigrating to the country

During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Trump directed harsh criticism at Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), referring to her as garbage and expressing his opposition to Somali immigrants residing in the United States. The confrontation arose in the context of a discussion on immigration policies. Omar, who became a U.S. citizen 25 years ago after escaping the civil war in Somalia at age eight, was the focus of Trumps remarks.

We could go one way or another, and if we keep allowing this, were heading in the wrong direction, Trump stated. Ilhan Omar is garbage. Shes garbage. Her associates are garbage. These are not individuals who contribute or inspire progress.

Trump continued, criticizing those he claimed do nothing but complain, adding, When people come from troubled places and only complain, we dont need them here. They should return and address the issues themselves. He also commented specifically on Somalia, saying, Somalia has serious issues, and we dont want them in our country. I can make the same statement about other nations as well.

These statements coincide with reports that federal authorities may be planning targeted immigration enforcement actions aimed at Somali immigrants in Minnesota living without legal status. Trump has repeatedly criticized Omar over recent months. Last month, he ridiculed her for frequently citing the Constitution and engaging in American politics, a sentiment he reiterated on Tuesday.

Ive observed Ilhan Omar for years. She continually criticizes the Constitution and portrays the U.S. as a hostile place. She expresses hatred toward various groups and, in my opinion, lacks competence, Trump said during the meeting.

Omar responded on social media, dismissing the attacks and stating, His fixation on me is disturbing. I hope he gets the help he urgently needs, in reference to a video clip of Trumps comments.
