GOP lawmakers criticize MTG for missing votes following her resignation from Congress

Republican members of Congress have sharply criticized Marjorie Taylor Greene for failing to participate in any House votes this week, following her announcement last month that she would be stepping down from her position.

Maryland Representative Andy Harris expressed frustration, stating that a candidate who pledges to serve a full two-year term should honor that commitment, while acknowledging that the decision ultimately belongs to Greene. Floridas Randy Fine was more direct, saying he was relieved by her departure and wished she would complete the process, accusing her of lacking genuine commitment to conservative priorities.

Greene revealed her plan to resign from Congress on November 21, ending her service as the representative for Georgias 14th district, a seat she has held since 2021. Her decision came after prolonged disputes with GOP colleagues, Trump supporters, and former President Donald Trump. Points of conflict included disagreements over the release of Epstein documents and the administrations position on the war in Gaza.

In a video statement, Greene declared she could no longer serve under such conditions, saying she valued her self-respect and dignity and would not remain in a position that made her feel like a battered wife waiting for circumstances to improve. Although her official last day is set for January 5, she has already been absent from the voting floor throughout the week.

Greene also previously stated she would not support any candidate in the upcoming special election to determine her replacement, prompting further anger among members of her party. Fine, who has publicly disagreed with her on issues including Israels military campaign in Gaza, said her recent behavior demonstrated that she prioritizes personal interests above those of her constituents.

He argued that if Greene no longer wished to serve, she should resign immediately instead of delaying the transition and preventing the special election from moving forward. Another GOP lawmaker added that attending votes is a fundamental responsibility of elected officials, noting that Greene no longer appears committed to fulfilling that duty.

Former President Trump reacted strongly to her resignation, escalating his criticism by calling her a traitor online. He also claimed she stepped down because he refused to take her calls and mocked her by altering her last name in a post, suggesting her political standing had deteriorated.
