Trump Criticizes Senate GOP, Urges Them to End 'Gridlock'

President Donald Trump sharply criticized Senate Republicans on Monday, urging them to break the gridlock and vote to eliminate the filibuster. Trump highlighted remarks by former Attorney General Eric Holder, who warned that Democrats aim to expand the Supreme Court if given the chance. Holder reportedly wants to increase the number of justices to 21, far beyond the previously discussed 15, a move Trump claims would threaten the Constitution.

Trump argued that terminating the filibuster would allow Republicans to secure legislative victories, win the 2026 midterm elections, and pave the way for a strong performance in the 2028 presidential election. He framed the filibuster as the main obstacle preventing Republicans from implementing their agenda and achieving a highly successful administration without government shutdowns.

Last month, Trump issued a similar warning, stating that failure to end the filibuster would make it impossible for Republicans to pass common sense policies and could result in significant electoral losses. He emphasized that without this change, Democrats could block legislation for years, leaving Republicans to take the blame.

Trump also claimed that ending the filibuster would allow Republicans to approve all of their initiatives efficiently and could prevent Democrats from regaining power in the foreseeable future. Despite this, Senate Republicans, including Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), maintain that there are not enough votes to eliminate the filibuster.
