USDA secretary: Trump remains firmly committed to affordability

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins highlighted that President Trump is concentrating on measures to improve affordability as the new year approaches, responding to declining approval ratings on economic issues. During a recent interview on Fox Businesss Kudlow, Rollins shared that the president said, Brooke, were not going to have plastic eggs at the Easter Egg Roll at the White House. Rollins noted that in nearly ten months, egg prices have dropped by 86 percent. She added, This president has been, as you know, resolutely focused on making America more affordable again.

President Trump has emphasized efforts to reduce the cost of living, framing affordability concerns as largely a matter of voter perception and claiming that reported complaints were a con job by the Democrats. Earlier this month on Fox News, he stated, I think polls are fake. We have the greatest economy weve ever had.

While egg prices have decreased 1.3 percent over the past year and dairy prices remained mostly stable, other food costs have risen. Beef prices are up 14.7 percent, bacon increased by 5.8 percent, and pork is higher by 1.6 percent, according to recent Consumer Price Index data. Overall inflation has climbed 3 percent since September 2024, exceeding the Federal Reserves 2 percent target by 1 percentage point.

Rollins told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow, We have a few outliers that were working on right now, but hes incredibly focused on this. Fuel is down. The cost of shelter, housing, which is about 40 percent of the cost of living, is down year-over-year in the last four years, almost 14 percent since the president took office. So, the White House, our cabinet, all of our colleagues and teams were hyper-focused on this affordability question.

She concluded, I think the American people will be really encouraged.
