Recall of Crayola magnetic cubes at Michaels and Amazon: What you need to know

Nearly 10,000 Crayola-branded magnetic building cubes, sold by CreateOn, have been recalled due to posing an "ingestion hazard" to children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported on December 4. The cubes contain magnets that can come loose if the seams separate. Ingested magnets can attract each other or metal objects, potentially becoming lodged in the digestive system. This can cause serious injuries, including perforation, twisting, blockage of intestines, blood poisoning, or even death, according to the CPSC.

CreateOn, the manufacturer, has stated that the magnets may detach, creating a "small-parts risk" if ingested by children. As of December 4, no injuries have been reported. CreateOn emphasized its commitment to product safety and is cooperating fully with the CPSC to address the issue. Actions taken include notifying consumers, updating the company website with recall instructions, and working with retailers to remove the affected products from shelves.

Details on the recall:

Approximately 9,400 units of CreateOn's Crayola-branded magnetic cubes, known as "pip-Cubes," have been recalled. These products, which were sold between May and July of this year, were available at Michaels stores, on Michaels.com, and on Amazon. The recalled sets, available in "Bold Colors" or "Glitter," came in either 24-cube or 27-cube sets. You can find the model numbers and UPC codes on the bottom of the product packaging for reference.
