Warning issued for longer rail journeys due to 'essential' work.

Passengers travelling through Cornwall should expect delays as significant maintenance work takes place on the rail network. Network Rail has announced that upgrades will occur between Truro and Penzance from Monday, 1 December to Friday, 5 December.

During this period, trains will be replaced by bus services on the Truro-Penzance route. Additionally, rail tickets will be valid on local buses running between St Erth and St Ives.

Mark Parker, lead portfolio manager at Network Rail, stated: "We thank passengers for their understanding while we carry out this essential work to improve journey reliability in Cornwall."

The planned improvements include installing new track, sleepers, and ballast near Redruth, replacing track near Camborne, and upgrading track equipment around Penzance and St Erth.

Lee Goodson, station manager for west Cornwall at Great Western Railway, explained: "No trains will stop at Redruth, Camborne, Hayle, St Erth, or Penzance, nor on the St Ives Bay Line during this period. Services will continue at Truro for Falmouth Docks, Exeter St Davids, and London Paddington. However, CrossCountry trains will not operate between Truro and Plymouth."

Mr Goodson added: "Passengers should plan for longer journey times due to these alternative transport arrangements."
