Five people die in Israeli air strikes on tents near Khan Younis, according to medics.

At least five Palestinians lost their lives and several others were injured when Israeli warplanes targeted tents and temporary shelters for displaced families west of Khan Younis in Gaza, medical personnel at the Kuwait Field Hospital reported. The attacks focused on the coastal al-Mawasi region.

Rescue teams informed the BBC that the victims bodies were retrieved from al-Najaat camp, a site of densely packed tents that has provided refuge to hundreds of displaced people in recent months.

Eyewitnesses described that an initial strike hit a tent within the al-Mawasi displacement zone, followed by further explosions near the Kuwait hospital, causing chaos and panic among families taking shelter nearby.

The Israeli military stated that it had targeted a "Hamas operative in southern Gaza" in response to an incident in which five Israeli soldiers were injured in the Rafah region. According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces, "The Hamas terrorist organization committed a clear breach of the ceasefire by attacking IDF troops stationed in the Rafah area."

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged a measured response to the assault.
