The question of where former Prince Andrew will reside continues to stir discussion within the royal family. Despite encouragement from King Charles, sources indicate the ex-duke is not rushing to leave his Windsor residence.
Although formal steps have been initiated to transition Andrew out of Royal Lodge, insiders suggest that the process could take significantly longer and be more complicated than originally anticipated.
Andrews Move-Out Timeline Remains Unclear
Reports indicate that King Charles has formally begun efforts to reclaim Royal Lodge as part of a wider reorganization of royal properties. Andrew, 65, has reportedly signed documents acknowledging the termination of his lease under the Crown Estate. Nevertheless, with the notice period estimated at a minimum of 12 months, he is legally entitled to remain on the premises for at least another year.
An insider told media outlets that the departure will not happen quickly, noting that removal vans will not be arriving at Royal Lodge anytime soon. Another source familiar with the situation claimed that Andrew is taking a deliberate approach, stating he aint going anywhere.
Logistical Challenges Complicate Departure
Royal Lodge is more than a standard home. The 30-room estate has been Andrews residence for over twenty years and includes several outbuildings and cottages, along with a large collection of personal possessions. Items that belong to the Royal Collection must be catalogued and returned before the property can change hands.
Additionally, initial inspections have revealed areas requiring repairs, and the Crown Estate is reviewing potential costs to be deducted from funds Andrew might receive from the lease return.
Future Plans
Once the necessary preparations are complete, Andrew is expected to relocate to the Kings Sandringham estate. This move reflects his reduced public role following his step back from royal duties. Meanwhile, his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has continued residing at Royal Lodge after their divorce, is reportedly considering other housing options in the Windsor area.
