Residents of Coll suggest purchasing former charity headquarters.

Community members on the Isle of Coll are organizing to purchase the former base of an international volunteering organization. Ballyhaugh, a renovated farmhouse, served as Project Trust's main office for many years, but the charity has recently relocated its activities to the mainland, where much of its 18-member staff work remotely.

A dedicated steering group has been established to oversee the acquisition of the property and adjacent land, which are currently listed for 755,000.

Project Trust expressed support for any effort that could repurpose its previous facilities to benefit the local community. The charity has maintained connections with Coll since the 1970s.

The steering group emphasized that community ownership would help maintain employment opportunities on the island. Co-chair Rhona Smith outlined potential future uses for the site, such as providing affordable housing, creating a care facility, or hosting a community venue. She highlighted the importance of ensuring that the property meets local needs while promoting jobs and economic growth.
