New operators take over bus routes in the new year

Bus services running between Coventry and Warwickshire will move to new operators in early January as part of efforts to ensure the network remains reliable and ready for future demands, a councillor has announced.

Warwickshire County Council stated that contracts for several routes will conclude on 2 January, after which Stagecoach will take over their operation. These services were previously managed by National Express, Arriva and Coventry Minibuses.

Areas including Coventry, Nuneaton, Bedworth and Rugby are expected to see electric buses rolled out later next year. Details of the routes affected are available on the councils official website.

Councillor Jennifer Warren explained that the transition represents a significant step in maintaining a dependable and well-connected transport system. She added that shifting routes to new contracts and planning for the arrival of modern electric vehicles will help ensure that residents across the region continue to have access to frequent and high-quality public transport.

Starting 2 January, passengers will be able to purchase tickets through the Stagecoach website or directly on board. Nbus tickets will remain valid within the West Midlands Combined Authority area.

Tickets issued by Arriva, National Express or Coventry Minibuses will be accepted by Stagecoach for up to one month after their expiry date, but no later than 31 January 2026.

The council also advised that passengers including students should contact their original ticket provider for refunds on annual or long-term tickets extending beyond January.
