The holiday season in New York City reaches its peak when the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center is illuminated. One of the most anticipated traditions, Christmas in Rockefeller Center, returns with a festive night filled with music, special guests, and the lighting of the iconic tree in the heart of Manhattan.

When will Christmas in Rockefeller Center air?

The tree lighting special is scheduled to air on Wednesday, December 3, at 8/7c on NBC and will also be available to stream live on Peacock. Viewers who want to tune in earlier can watch a one-hour live pre-show beginning at 7/6c, which will be broadcast on NBC-owned local stations.

Who is hosting the event?

This years ceremony will be hosted by singer and entertainer Reba McEntire. She is currently involved in multiple projects with NBC, including a starring role in the networks comedy series Happys Place and her return as a coach on The Voice. She will be joined throughout the night by guest appearances from Today show anchors Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker.

Facts about this years Rockefeller Christmas tree

The Rockefeller Christmas tree tradition began in 1931 during the Great Depression, and the first official lighting ceremony followed in 1933. This years tree is a Norway Spruce from East Greenbush, New York. It stands approximately 75 feet tall, spans about 45 feet wide, and weighs close to 11 tons.

The tree is decorated with more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights and crowned with a brilliant Swarovski star, continuing one of Americas most beloved holiday traditions.
